Hon. Maryvonne Pool, Founder of the African Reflections Foundation (ARF) is in Germany to attend BIOFACH – World’s Leading Trade Fair for Organic Food, taking place from 13 – 16 February 2019.
ARF has taken a leading role in pioneering organic agriculture in Tanzania through its commercial body, Tanzpro Greens Limited. Hon Maryvonne aims at taking Tanzania’s presence of organic agriculture to the World and interact with leaders in the organic agriculture sector.
Since 2005 ARF has been working to create sustainable income for rural women groups as well as to attain gender balance; while assisting them in getting local and international market for their produce. She believes that farmers in the developing world like Tanzania can boost yields by adopting organic farming methods.
The profitability of organic agriculture can be attributed to a number of factors. Organic farmers do not rely on synthetic fertilizer and pesticide inputs, which can be costly.
“There is a need for an increase in funding for research, extension services and organic farming in general. Taking into account that over 60 percent of Tanzanians are employed by the agriculture sector, I believe organic agriculture practices will help to brighten the future of the sector,” insists Hon Maryvonne.
