tudents of Mamndi Mkongo Secondary School have managed to clear the land to start their school garden project. In 2018, ARF coordinated the construction of a deep water wells at the school under the sponsorship of Nichols School, USA.
ARF and Tanzpro Greens Ltd have since assisted to develop a sustainable agricultural project at the school, which also has an all girls hostel.
One of the students, who is currently in form three, told our team that easy access to clean water truly encouraged them during the clearing of the land, knowing that they will be able to maintain the garden with ease.
“Our garden is small, but we can help us save our money. Instead of buying vegetables, the money can be budgeted for other items”, added Fatuma.
The school garden will be key in developing the students’ horticulture skills and hopefully provide an alternative employment option when they leave school. Often times young school leavers in the rural areas do not find employment.
